Buyer Beware

Consumers should be prepared to thoroughly research perspective breeds and breeders before buying a puppy. Do your research. Ask if the breeder is a member of an AKC- affiliated club and contact that club to verify membership or check recent listings of available AKC litters from breeders at ww.akc.org/classified/index.cfm

You can also check with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the AKC at (919-233-9767) to see if there are any complaints about the breeder.

Request references and speak to other people who have purchased dogs from this breeder especially if the breeder does not live near you.

The popularity of the Russell Terrier is having a negative impact on the breed because of the poor quality of puppies being offered for sale from questionable sources such as brokers,  puppy mills, and those importing very young puppies from foreign puppy farms. Make sure  the puppy has an export pedigree from country of origin if imported into the US. If sire and  dam of the puppy are represented as imports make sure they are registered with the AKC with  an export pedigree on record with AKC to insure their quality.

Listed breeders are members in good standing of the American Russell Terrier Club, Inc. The ARTC does not recommend or endorse any one breeder, nor does it recommend, guarantee or rate breeders or their stock. Under no circumstances does the ARTC endorse or gaurantee the services or dogs of any said member(s), nor does it assume any responsibility or liability regarding any agreements (contractual or otherwise) entered into with any ARTC member. Any complaint about breeders may be presented to the Board of Directors.

Please contact Cathi Calhoun or by phone 951-371-2447, for a list of breeders having dogs or puppies available.
